Chocolate Cream Dachshund
Chocolate and Cream Dachshund
Chocolate and Cream Dachshunds are amazing! To me, they are the true “truffle” of the dachshund breed. So much so, that I have a Chocolate and Cream dapple Dachshund that I have named Truffles. They are stunning to look at, with their pretty hazel colored eyes, and like satin to the touch. I have been asked, “what makes Chocolate and Cream Dachshunds anymore special than Chocolate and Tan.” Well, they just ARE.
Chocolate and Cream Dachshunds are a variety of the English Cream Dachshund family. They are generally of a Japanese background and have extremely silky coats with bright vivid cream points that make them stand WAY apart from their chocolate and tan ancestors.
Chocolate Cream Dachshund Genetics
A Chocolate Cream Dachshund is the combination of two recessive genes that took years to develop. Personally, I have tried to find information in hopes of putting together a timeline or history of the Chocolate and Cream Dachshund, but have not had any luck. All I can say, is that I am confident that the marriage of Chocolate and Tan dachshunds to the elegant English Cream Dachshunds is the simplest answer. Like you read on our blue and cream dachshund page, this kind of genetics take years of work and patience to fully develop. Creating dachshunds that carried strongly for both the chocolate and cream gene. To put in simpler terms, I think they would have bred a Cream Dachshund to a Chocolate one, then kept a puppy. Then, bred another cream dachshund to another chocolate one (hopefully unrelated ones) and kept another puppy. When they bred these two offspring together, you have the first real chance at creating a Chocolate and Cream Dachshund. It would have taken years to “clean up” the pedigree, but it would have been worth it. Taking chances is the ONLY way anything new is ever created. No matter whether you’re talking about dogs or the creation of the wheel.
Our Chocolate Cream Dachshund Story
Our first Chocolate and Cream carriers came from my mentor Phyllis, who has long since retired. She blessed me with the amazing Kaylie. Named after her own granddaughter. Kaylie has a chocolate and tan longhaired mother that carried the cream gene, and an English Cream father that did not carry the chocolate gene. What resulted, was a black and tan smooth Kaylie-bird (as I call her), that became the foundation of my desire to own and raise Chocolate and Cream Dachshunds. I would imagine that I could have earned a doctorate at the local university in the time it took me to find a suitable mate for my precious Kaylie. I was always.. so close, yet so far away. Then, I met Kathi! Kathi is a second generation dachshund breeder that loved me from the start. Now, Kathi owned Cutter. A dog that will always hold a special spot in my heart. Kathi blessed me with several of Cutters kids.. as I call them. Giving me the other family tree that I needed to complete my obsession with Chocolate and Cream. Of coarse, had it not been for Tammy, I would have never made it this far. Tammy helped me in ways you can’t imagine. Houdini, Candy, Cookie..and occassionally Bentley.. are my dream come true. I’ll never understand how I got lucky enough to have two great breeders for friends. But, I think of them every time I hold and pass out kisses to my precious Chocolate and Creams!
